A true grand country pub experience, sympathetic decor to the pub's era (and very well done), gorgeous, genuinely interested staff, both at reception and in the restaurant, located right in the centre of town - listen to the post office clock chime, look out your window to the architecture of Broken Hill's heyday, lie back in bed and be transported back to the 30's but with all mod cons. Highly recommend. (Just don't bother with the restaurant, it's very disappointing). Will be staying here again!
A gorgeously restored art deco hotel, a luxurious bed in a very small room (eg no room for a table or bench surface). Be sure to look for the fridge and tea facilities in the wardrobe! Some rooms have direct access to a very wide balcony with nice quasi-cane seat/table ensembles - it would be worth asking for one of these rooms. Downstairs we particularly loved the open fires in the lounge, on a very cold wet night! Delicious and reasonably priced dinner in an elegant dining room, good service, though I don't approve of the practice of charging extra for vegies. There is on-street parking only in the immediate vicinity, which would be an issue on a week night. The check-out desk which was to be open at 0700 was still closed when we left at 0730 (having fortunately paid for dinner the previous night!). Still a place to stay for an elegant taste of a bygone era.
I stayed at The Royal Exchange because of it's close proximity to work. It was like stepping back in time. The inside of the building is wonderful. My room had access to the balcony which was also nice. At $170 for the night it was a bit expensive but it was only one night.
Not my first stay here so that must say something. Staff have been friendly and helpful on all occasions. Lovely hotel with modern conveniences and neat and tidy rooms. The deluxe rooms are nice and spacious where I found the superior rooms to be better suited for a 1-2 night stay. The food in the restaurant is fabulous and have thoroughly enjoyed every meal. Only downside is the restaurant is closed Sunday-Monday but we all need a rest don't we. Would certainly recommend this lovely, very centrally located hotel.
